The S4 Story
We like the world that we live in, even though it’s far from perfect. We’d love it to better and we definitely don’t want it to get worse. We also like the internet, believe that information empowers people, and would like for everyone to have access to as much of it as possible.
The problem are that, although it might not be talked about or even thought about very much, the internet is a major contributor to carbon emissions and climate change, and it can be complicated and expensive to create a strong web presence.
We would like to do something about that!
S4 might be a young small company but the team behind it has a lot of experience in web design, development and server management.
We are passionate about sustainability, ethics, open source software, net neutrality and internet freedom. At some point we realised that while we were doing a lot of things in our lives as sustainably as we could, the way that we were hosting our websites didn’t fit in with that.
“This is why we came up with S4, our take on the way that websites should be hosted, ethical, sustainable, green and carbon neutral.”
We spent more than a year, and a lot of thought, work, testing and development before launching to create web hosting on our own terms. We’ve spent more than a year since then improving on that base, while happily offering the same hosting service to other people who need a web presence that works but also care about a sustainable, fast, and affordable internet.
The S4 Team
We’ll write more about who we are and what we all are and what we do soon, but for now here’s a little bit about the co-founders of S4.
John
An Englishman who has run away from the land of Brexit to the beautiful Baltics, John is passionate about an accessible internet, open source software, media freedom, data privacy, seitan, pickled onions, and windmills.
John spends his days as CTO of S4, improving the tech stack, experimenting in the kitchen, and singing badly in the shower.
Rima
A native Lithuanian, Rima has also lived all over Europe, in Africa, and Mexico. She is passionate about education and awareness, and believes understanding outcomes is the key to encouraging people to change habits.
Rima believes you don’t need to be vegan, do yoga, or live a minimalistic lifestyle to care about the environment and be zero waste.
Platforma EKO
S4 is part of a group of sustainable businesses and awareness projects called Platforma EKO. You can find out a bit more about the other things that we do by by taking a look at the Platforma EKO site.
